Growing a Garden-Yes Please!

There are WAY to many pesticides and chemicals used in farming today. I had never really worried about it until Keegan got sick. Cancer has a way of making you look at the environment around you and everything that has and will be ingested. Because of this I have decided I am going to "try" to grow a garden in our little urban yard.

I got the idea from a friend of mine. She posted on facebook all her little started plants that she is tending to like small little babies. She is more of a veteran when it comes to this whole gardening thing so I asked her advice on some issues. What to plant was one of my biggies. She told me what she had planted and what yielded the most crop. I asked her if she thought baby jars with the little peat discs were suitable for starter plants and so on.

On Friday night, after Ryan and I went on a date, we ran by Wal-Mart. I picked up half a dozen seed packets and little peat discs. On Saturday I planted our little seeds in the baby food jars. I planted lettuce, carrots, peppers, beans, tomatoes, and cucumbers. I am happy to report that after a day of sitting by a window with the blinds up I have some sprouts!

The second batch was planted on Tuesday the 8th. I need to plant more but I am low on baby food jars. Here are some pictures of the first batch that was planted.

  1. Good for you! My husband puts in a garden every year and we always enjoy it. I really want him to set up a greenhouse then we can have our own veggies all year long.

How is Keegan doing? Is he healed from that fracture?

Always praying for him and you!

  2. Good for you! Gosh... I could have an entire conversation with you about how i believe a lot of the foods we eat contribute to the increase in illness today. I have done a lot of research. I try to be as organic as i can...but its expensive! Having your own garen has SO many benefits. Plus, the taste is undeniable!
